PROTECTING MY SOLDIER
If
I could protect you from all the harm in the world I would.
If
I could wipe away all the sadness on your face I would.
If
I could hold you and take your place I would.
If
I could break you free of all the misery I would.
I
hate to see you sad and I hate to hear you're feeling bad.
If
I could go back in time I would change it all and make it right.
I
wouldn't let you go and fight.
You
tried to save the world from this war.
You
put your life on the line without a second thought.
No
protective armor or escape from a place far from home.
You
knew you could die at any time,
But you did what was right and kept up the
fight.
Many
nights with no sleep, walking for hours and drive by gun fire,
IED's
caused many to die but you kept on going knowing that you tried.
Freedom,
you would play some small part,
Smiles
on those countries faces because you took part.
The
will and courage you had, I never felt so glad.
You
tried to protect me and everyone else if they could see.
No
welcome, No parade, No appreciation,
No special day for all you tried to do.
Not
many phone calls they allow or hardly any mail.
Just
you, in a cold lonely cell.
Never
a thank you son for what you have done.
18
years they take from you and you just turn 22.
What
will I do without you here?
I
try and fight for you and make them hear.
You
don't belong there, you belong here.
Hang
on son, I say to you and remember I love you to get you through.
This
world doesn't mean freedom until you are free.
If
I could protect you from all the harm in the world I would.
If
I could wipe away all the sadness on your face I would.
If
I could hold you and take your place I would.
If
I could break you free of all the misery I would.
I
hate to see you sad and I hate to hear you're feeling bad.
It's
my turn to fight for you.

I STILL HAVE THOSE THINGS
You were just my little boy with that blond curly hair and blue eyes,
Playing with cars and trucks and sometimes making a fuss,
Outside in the dirt and the sand it gave you such dirty little hands.
You would draw me pictures and make me things, and remember your report cards
you would bring? I still have all those things.
Remember you would help me cook and sit on my lap and read a book.
You would tell your little jokes and make me laugh.
I loved your smile that could stretch for miles. Don't forget you were so cute
in that little suite .Like a little man before your time, oh my how you shined.
I can remember all those things and so many more wonderful things.
So handsome people would say and you stayed that way.
I was so proud of all the things you learned.
I could see your dreams as you told it to me.
I could feel the courage and strength you had.
I knew when you felt happy or sad.
I knew when you had tears underneath.
I knew when you needed me.
You have done so much for me, only mommies know what I mean.
I could brag all day long about my little boy who became a man.
You are a man everyone can see,
But you still draw me pictures and make me
things.
I still see your dreams as you tell it to me.
I still know when you feel happy or sad.
I still know when you have tears underneath.
I still know the courage and strength you have.
I'm still so proud of all the things you learned.
And I still know when you need me.
In my heart, I still have those things.
Corey, I STILL HAVE THOSE THINGS!
